LATEST - HFE Bill - Report Stage and 3rd Reading took place on 22nd October without any amendments of interest to all parties to donor conception. Royal Assent has now been granted.  Most provisions will be enacted in October 2009 but those relating to parental status (mostly affecting lesbian couples) will come into force in April 2009.

The HFEA Register of Donors and Donor Offspring opens to 18 year olds conceived since August 1991 (HFE Act) in 2010. 
The HFEA's Annual Meeting on 13th October 2008 featured four presentations anticipating this event.  They included this speech from Olivia Montuschi on the Parent's Perspective(PDF)

Government response to the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Committee's recommendations for amendments to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1991.

On 8th October the Government gave their response to the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Committee's recommendations for amendments to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1991. In addition to abandoning the plans to amalgamate the HFEA with the Human Tissue Authority they made important statements about the recommendations that donor information should appear on birth certificates and the issue of 'the need for a father'.
