On 8th October the Government gave their response to the Joint Parliamentary Scrutiny Committee's recommendations for amendments to the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Act 1991. In addition to abandoning the plans to amalgamate the HFEA with the Human Tissue Authority they made important statements about the recommendations that donor information should appear on birth certificates and the issue of 'the need for a father'. |

Amongst many other things it includes proposals for: a) donor conceived people at age 18 to be able to find out about half-siblings b) for donors to be given non-identifying information about children they have helped to conceive if they ask for it and c) for donors to be informed when a donor conceived adult is seeking information about them.
