Her book is a clear and thoughtful assertive consumers guide to the world of assisted reproductive technology and complementary therapies as well. The language is straightforward with excellent descriptions and line drawings illustrating procedures such as IVF, IUI and ICSI. The emotional ups and downs of treatment are discussed. There is a list of UK clinics covering issues not discussed in the HFEA Patient's Guide, such as approximate costs, age limits, whether counselling is free or not and whether the clinic treats single and/or lesbian women.

Written by an American urologist specialising in male infertility and a psychologist, this book gives clear and detailed explanations of the various causes of male infertility. There is also up to date and detailed discussion of treatment options such as IVF with intra- cytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI), including research based evidence of the possibility of the children inheriting health problems from their fathers. There is a very good discussion on the psychological effects of male infertility on men and women. Donor Insemination is portrayed as an option that many families cannot accept; chosen as a first option by couples who cannot afford IVF/ICSI. The author feels that most families conceal DI from their children, but the increased use of genetic testing and information in medicine may make this more difficult in the future.
